SUMMARY:River of God – OSL Leadership Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Our OSL Leadership Retreat\, October 7-9\, 2021\, will be online rather than in person due to the\nincreased incidences of Covid-19 in Florida and updated diocesan protocols for in person\ngatherings. \nThis is designed as a retreat\, not a teaching conference. The whole focus is on filling up with the\nriver of God those who have been pouring themselves out over the last year and a half. Our six\nspeakers will be sharing words of encouragement from scripture via Facebook livestream on\nthe OSL Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/OSLToday\, and the Reverend Bob Johnson\nwill be leading worship from the Church of the Ascension sanctuary for each session \n.\nThere will be an opportunity for small group fellowship and prayer after three of the talks and\nlarge group ministry\, including soaking prayer after the remaining three. There will be a link in\nthe comments section of the Facebook livestream which will take people into Zoom breakout\nrooms for the small group time. \nWe have tried to accommodate mealtimes with breaks to the extent that it is possible when\nscheduling across several time zones. DESCRIPTION:Moving to Real Reconciliation\nAn Opportunity to meet with Fellow Christians to learn\, reflect\, discuss\, pray and heal \nOur Retreat Leader: Rev. Malcolm Phillips \nInternational Ministry Pastor at Mok Yang Presbyterian Church (Fairfax Station\, Virginia) has a calling and passion for reconciliation and cross-cultural ministry. He was born in the 1950s when segregation was legal in the USA South and de-facto elsewhere in the land. His father was a Marine from a small town in western Pennsylvania. His mother was from small town South Carolina. \nMalcolm lived in Pennsylvania\, Virginia\, North and South Carolina and Oklahoma. College started with the then new experience of distance learning followed with the University of Oklahoma (Soviet and East European Studies with the minor International Affairs). Additional studies in Norway\, Germany and Great Britain proved useful as a Soviet Specialist during the Cold War. He traveled widely in the closed lands of the “Soviet/Eastern Bloc” when westerners were not going to Eastern Europe. It was truly wonderful. He met and became friends with many people. This brought increased attention for citizens from local authorities (which often only seemed to make them more welcoming. Usually he was the first person of color that they or any family or friends had met. (Some believers in officially atheist lands even took him to underground services in secret locations)! Highlights included being in Berlin as the hated Berlin Wall was breached. This was followed by six months spent in 13 of the newly freed Eastern European lands. He has made MANY trips back since and maintains contacts. \n4 Meditations will be offered by Rev. Malcolm \nFriday Oct 16\, beginning at 7:00 PM EDT \nMeditation 1:\nThe “I” Test – Contrition – Before reconciliation can become reality\, each person must truly examine his/her heart and walk with God to see what it’s condition is. (The Prodigal Son story Luke 15) \nSat Oct 17\, beginning 9:00 AM \nMeditation 2:\nI did; I did not – Confession – After self-examination\, ask God to illuminate areas that need attention (Zaccheus in Luke 19) \nMeditation 3:\n“You can’t go forward looking in the rear-view mirror” – Satisfaction – Celebrate the areas that can be repaired (if possible) \nMeditation 4:\n“Cast off burdens/chains that bind to be blessed and bless others – Absolution – As the chains of bondage from past separations fall\, walk together with brothers (Paul in 2 Corinthians 5 – 18-20) \nFollowing each meditation there will be small group reflection discussion\, large group discussion and time for private reflection. Fr. Paul Feider\, author of Resting in the Heart: A Spirituality of Healing and Wholeness and The Journey to Inner Peace\, will be our leader for 4 sessions covering these topics. \nFr. Paul\, a Wisconsin native and the President of the OSL Board of Directors\, is retired after 43 years in ministry. He spent these years passionately leading people in his community and surrounding area to a deep love for God\, teaching about the power of God’s word and bringing God’s healing touch to numerous people.  He has traveled to Australia\, Europe\, Guatemala\, Kenya\, Uganda\, Madagascar\, and nationally teaching and ministering the healing love of God. \n\n\nThe conference will be conducted live on Zoom.
